WE did it!

I began my campaign for CVUSD Board of Education in May. Things kicked things off with the early endorsement of Conejo Together, and I haven't stopped since.

As a first-time candidate, there was a lot of work to do to build a campaign from the ground up. I held meetings with many people, primarily focused on people connected in some way to the district - parents, students, teachers, staff, alumni. I wanted to build for myself a comprehensive picture of the issues the district was facing. I'm grateful to those who have spent time talking with me and sharing valuable insights.

I had an amazing, supportive core campaign team from the beginning and I'm beyond grateful for all the time they spent on this endeavor. This campaign was completely grassroots. My campaign volunteers did it because they believe in me and they believe in the importance of our schools. Nearly all of my campaign volunteers are CVUSD parents (and some are staff too).

I imagine there will be questions about what were the key factors contributing to my successful campaign. Obviously, my hope is that those who voted for me saw someone who will be a thoughtful, fair-minded, and ethical leader for the CVUSD who is also an advocate for public education: someone who will focus on positive outcomes for all students and be supportive of teachers and staff.

The campaign climate here in the CV was bumpy at times: Over the last several months, our community witnessed an aggressive effort to discredit the district and its leadership by anti-public education activists who often chose to disparage certain groups of students. I was distressed to witness such tactics here in our community.

I'm thrilled to take on the role of representing my community as a CVUSD Trustee. I have much to learn, and I look forward to many conversations in the near future with more CVUSD teachers, staff, administration, students and parents. I am confident that we will work together as a community to support our schools as we continue to keep them strong - and as we continue to focus on important concepts such as equity, access and innovation. Thank you, CVUSD Area 2 voters, for your trust in me.
