My Priorities for CVUSD

It has been an honor to serve my community and its schools as a CVUSD Trustee since 2022. My priorities from my 2022 campaign remain the same.

Prepare all students

Ensure that all CVUSD students are well-prepared to lead fulfilling, productive lives by providing a wide range of offerings to capture the needs of our diverse student population, with equity and access central.

Support teacher excellence

Teachers need the support, policies, and training opportunities that will help them excel in the classroom. This requires investments in the resources and training that translate into excellence in the classroom.

Strong community connections

CVUSD and our community must work hand-in-hand. Our partnerships with local agencies, nonprofits, and businesses are critical.

Ensure fiscal stability

Provide responsible oversight regarding budget planning and decisions that protects essential services and maintains long-term fiscal stability.

There is much to be proud of. Here are just a few notable accomplishments in the CVUSD in recent time: results of the work of so many dedicated people across the District:

  • CVUSD became the first school district in Ventura County to offer a complete TK-12 International Baccalaureate (IB) continuum in June 2026 once Sequoia Middle School and Newbury Park High School achieved authorization for the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP).

  • Dual Language Immersion (DLI) program at Conejo Academy of Leadership and Language Immersion continues to add grade levels and students, and planning is underway for expansion into middle school.

  • CTE pathways and courses continue to expand. The CTE program hosted its first Student Showcase in Spring 2025 and first Healthcare Summit in Fall 2025!

  • Brand new beautiful tracks and fields in 2026 at NPHS, TOHS, and WHS thanks to Measure I, the voter-approved school facilities bond.

  • CVUSD was awarded the Best Communities for Music Education (BCME) Award from The NAMM Foundation for the second time. This award is a testament to CVUSD's outstanding support and commitment to music education.

  • TOHS, NPHS, WHS all named to the 2025 AP School Honor Roll. The AP School Honor Roll recognizes schools whose AP programs are delivering results and broadening participation for students.

  • Acacia Magnet School for Enriched Learning, Lang Ranch Elementary, Maple Elementary, Sycamore Canyon School, and Walnut Elementary recognized as 2025 Educational Results Partnership (ERP) Honor Roll Schools for their high academic achievement and student success.

  • Los Cerritos Middle School was named a 2026 California Distinguished School.

  • Updated cell phone policy that began implementation in Fall 2025. 

  • Updated technology policies that begin implementation in Fall 2026. Continued work to develop more technology guidance (including AI) is planned for 2026-27.

  • New district mission statement was formally adopted in 2025.

  • Continued focus on inclusion through co-teaching and the Unified Sports program. TOHS was named one of 45 schools nationwide to make the 2025 ESPN Honor Roll and was one of three schools selected to receive an in-person celebration during the 2025–2026 school year by Special Olympics and ESPN.

  • One of 19 school districts in the state, and the only school district in Ventura County, to earn the 2025 Model School Attendance Review Board Recipient distinction. CVUSD received this recognition from the CA Department of Education for exemplary practices that have contributed to reducing chronic absenteeism rates and improving student attendance.

  • CVUSD was awarded the prestigious ASBO Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting (COE) for the sixth year in a row. This honor recognizes school districts that uphold the highest standards of financial reporting and transparency. (The CVUSD is the only school district in Ventura County to complete the requirements of this rigorous reporting process.)

  • Wellness centers/strong mental health supports for students continue to be a major Board of Education priority.

  • Production of the Board of Education’s first Governance Handbook in 2025. This process and document are intended to not only help us as a board but help the community better understand the BOE’s role and how we work.
